Snooping Mother-In-Law Caught in the Act When She Triggers Hidden Glitter Bomb, Feigns Innocence, Plays Victim
When u/itsbettertobelucky realized that her mother-in-law was snooping she decided to catch her in the act.
She went upstairs to see what her mother-in-law, who was supposed to just be using the bathroom, was up to and caught her well out of place. The mother-in-law just pretended that she had "gotten lost" upstairs on her way to the bathroom. As if.
When u/itsbettertobelucky approached her husband about it, he just brushed her off saying that she "Just get[s] annoyed at this because everything [the MIL] does drives [her] crazy." So u/itsbettertobelucky realized that she needed some hard evidence if her husband was going to believe her and deal with the issue with his mother.
They had the in-laws over for the holidays. u/itsbettertobelucky had previously attempted, at this point, to catch her mother-in-law in the act by putting glitter on door handles. That proved to not be effective enough. She needed harder evidence to undeniably catch her mother-in-law in the act. To achieve this she rigged an envelope, filled with glitter, over the door to the office.
Lo and behold... The mother-in-law ends up covered in glitter for being where she's not supposed to. But now the husband and his family are taking the mother-in-law's side.
u/itsbettertobelucky wants to know... Did she do the right thing? Who is the a**hole here?
I'm glad my partner has a sense of boundaries (his and mine) and the spine to stand up for them. We wouldn't even have gotten to locking the doors, he would refuse them entry into our home.
AH, husband, his mom is going through every private document[s], OP NTA just lock the entire room when she comes to your house and tell her to apologize [for] her actions and tell your husband he is so spineless to take action against his scooping mother(it will be better if you cut her off OP)
I totally agree. I love the glitter bomb inspiration. It reminds me of all those porch pirate YouTube videos. She [was] just pissed for getting caught sparkle-handed.
She completely lost it and started screaming at me so I yelled back
This is the only point of fault I see. OP already won. Both adults screaming with one covered in glitter (Bwhahahahahah) was not a good impression on the kids that are young enough to be thwarted by baby gates.
To be clear... I am delighted with this story and 100% on OP's side. But we're all responsible for our own behavior and yelling back wasn't a good look.
PS - next time she complains about the glitter in the car tell her you are still waiting for her to come [to] clean up the glitter she knocked onto your office floor.
I like how [the] husband refuses to deal with it which left it up to OP and now he's mad about it. If he doesn't like OPs methods he needs to heed her sooner and actually deal with his mother himself.
This is a great idea. I might do something like this next time as I'm sure we have several next times in the future before we make and maintain progress with her.
