Font - My mom has been taking care of my dog (B) and cat (S) for me since I left for college. Its been around 3 years since then, and I now have my own place where I could have them. Now, she is unwilling to let me care for them.

Wow, so right off the bat its a bit confusing whose pets these are. The OP says they're her pets, but it sounds like they were adopted while she was a kid and so her mom has taken care of them for her for years. It might be hard for her to get the pets away from her mom, even if they're being neglected. Time to read further and find out what exactly happened in this story, it sounds to us like there must be some kind of big communication gap between them.

Font - Sadly, she has never been a great pet parent, and the few years I had B in high school I was unable to sway my mom to change her ways. I walked B maybe twice when she was a puppy, but my mom refused to let me ever again for "safety."

Oof, it always hurts to see animals not being taken proper care of. We hope that the dog and the cat are a bit bored or a bit overweight but not being abused in the scary sense of the world. We wonder how serious the neglect is and also why the daughter hasn't tried to discuss it with her mom in a sensitive way. We doubt that the mom was intentionally neglecting the animals, it must have been an after thought for her. Anyway, let's read on…

Font - She won't do it herself either. When I was there, I could play with B in the yard or with toys, so she was relatively ok. But now, whenever I come home I notice that my mom just leaves her in the crate most of the day. No walks or playtime. She didn't even have any toys until I bought her some when I visited last.

Organism - Both B and S are very overweight, lethargic, and anxious. It's hard to watch. I've given her tips time and time again on how to feed them better portions and foods, toys to get, etc. She always ignores them.

Font - When I saw how bad it had gotten (I am currently at her house), I immediately offered to take my pets with me again. After all, they both were mine. My cat was given to me by my deceased father, and my dog was given to me in my grief from his passing. I currently have two other, very spoiled cats with me in my college town, and I told my mom everything I do to take care of them

Font - (their expensive food, supplements, enrichment activities, toys) and how I would be happy and able to provide that for my other pets in their final years. She just laughed, and then said I couldn't. She said they are her "rocks." I can't fathom that with their neglect, but I don't know what to say or do. She's got

Font - terrible attachment issues, that only got worse when I left for school. I'm worried, but I care about my animals' wellbeing. What do I do? tldr: My mom is neglectful towards my childhood pets, but sees them as her "rock." I'm more than willing to take and spoil them, but she won't let me. What do I do?

Font - [-] The_SugarPlum_Fairy 2 points 2 hours ago Just take them. Tell her she's been neglecting them so you're forced to take them with you. Or, take them when she's not home. Make sure she doesn't have a key to your place.

Font - - gem1n1-rising [S] 1 point 2 hours ago the issue is that i live 3 states away. its never that im home alone with them, and i dont have a car. my plan was to have my partner drive and get them with me if she agreed. i got a dm about taking them to a shelter, but i also really would rather avoid that.

Font - [-1 bsaddon 1 point an hour ago Stop making excuses, ask a friend to drive you there & just take them if you are so worried about their care

Font - [-] gem1n1-rising [S] 1 point an hour ago i dont think you realize i could literally lose my relationship with my mom or end up in legal trouble if i just break in and steal them. they're legally hers, i got them as a minor. i was more looking for ways to persuade her than people advising me to do illegal shit.
