Growing up seemed so glamorous when we were kids. We'd live on our own, make our own money, make our own plans, and accomplish our own dreams. Independence seemed like everything we ever wanted, and to a certain extent, it is. The thing is that with great power comes great responsibility and we're not sure we can handle the responsibility that weighs down our shoulders every day. Being responsible for our own destiny sounded awesome back when we weren't doing it, but now there's a whole lot of pressure that we didn't ask for. We may have hoped for the power of adulthood when we were kids, but we didn't really know what we were signing up for, therefore we feel that we were unfairly scammed. We had no experience being adults, so we didn't know what it was really like behind the scenes, which is the reason we were so excited for no reason. The adults of Twitter have come to learn the truth over time, and they're definitely not happy about it. The writers before us described our shared experiences through poetry, but the writers of today describe our shared experiences in tweets. Scroll down for this week's batch of adulting tweets.
We may not have had to pay bills and manage our money in a responsible way, but we did have to attend geometry class. School demanded way too much of us, and we're happy that all that insane amount of homework is behind us. Now we could actually pursue the passion projects we actually care about (after work hours, of course), the world is our oyster. We don't have to do any work relating to things that won't help us at all in the long run now that we know our part. Don't get us wrong. General education is important, but we're happy we don't have to delve any deeper into subjects that don't interest us these days.
We don't know what we expected from adulthood, but we're happy that neverending carbs are part of our adulting journeys. Pasta may not be the healthiest choice from the food pyramid, but it's definitely the cheapest and most delicious choice. As long we keep working out to combat the carbs that we're constantly consuming, we'll be good to go (or at least that's what we keep telling ourselves as we consume more Italian-style food for every meal of the day). The cool thing is that we're all doing it, so we can't judge one another for our unhealthy lifestyles. Time to jump on the pasta bandwagon today.
