A troubled sister, u/niecenamethrowaway, took to the r/AmItheAsshole subreddit on Reddit this week, seeking advice on a unique situation. See, her sister and husband want to name their baby an extremely unorthodox name that has their families troubled and concerned.
The name is a bizarre derivation of the 'Star Wars' character Chewbacca. u/niecenamethrowaway explains that the couple has decided to merge Becca and Chewbacca to create this abomination, and we're having a hard time figuring out just what in the heck they are thinking. It's one thing to name your kids after your favorite fictional characters, but… Chewbacca? Really?
Don't get me wrong, "Chewbecca" sounds like a great name. If your goal is to put your child in and out of therapy for the rest of their lives, that is. This poor girl will join the same support groups as the children named "Khaleesi" before Game of Thrones took an absolute dump on its own legacy and turned the character into a psychotic tyrant in a last-minute heel turn. At least, for Chewbecca, there will actually be some foreshadowing of the troubles that lie ahead for her.
We millennials continue to torture our children with our fandom obsessions. Maybe it's time for us to take a step back and avoid making the same mistakes our parents did by forcing our worlds upon them.
Take these 'Harry Potter' obsessed parents who forced the fandom on their kids until they couldn't take it anymore.
