We hold so much responsibility when it comes to our pets' behavior. They all come with their own personalities, of course, and some of them are bigger hooligans than others, but the way that you treat them and the things that you teach them reflect highly in the way that they act. So, if they act out, sometimes, it's on us to take responsibility. Not everyone does that though, some people choose to return their pets, and after that, we can only hope that said pets who have been returned to shelters find their forever homes.
Other people don't give up on these pets with behavioral issues - they give them a chance, and we're not really surprised when these people realize that the reason these pets had behavioral issues was because of their environments. It was the same with the nervous kitten who was rehomed 5 times before finding her forever home, and with the dog who was mistreated for barking and had to learn to bork all over again.
And it's the same here. The couple in this story who had the dog socialized her incorrectly, to the point where she became afraid of people. But all she needed to become the love bug that she really is was a second chance. Thankfully, she got one.
"Ms. Nyx was born in my October 2020 litter. She was the feistiest of all 11 puppies. She went to a family in SD."
"They reached out to me in January and said she had behavioral problems and they felt she was dangerous so they wanted to rehome her."
"Per the contract they signed when buying her, they had to inform me first so I could decide what is best for the dog. I immediately brought her home. I didn't want a potentially dangerous dog being rehomed when I knew I could help her."
"She came back to me and I could see where they got the idea she was dangerous. She was incorrectly socialized so she was reactive to people and animals. She had no confidence in her person to protect her so she made sure no one would mess with her, and she has a high protective instinct and working drive."
"Within 2 weeks she and I could go into stores, go on walks, play leashless in the the unfenced front yard, and even talk with strangers. She quickly showed me that she is a sound minded dog, who just had owners who didn't understand her."
"She is the most affectionate and loving dog, but isn't hyperactive at all. She has a WONDERFUL "off switch. (Which for anyone who knows this breed, that can be hard to come by)"
"I cannot be happier about getting her back. It's sad they gave her up but I am so happy to have her back. I knew from the time she was a little puppy that she would be an amazing dog. And I am definitely right."
"This is her at 5 weeks (roughly)"
"8 weeks (roughly)"
"And 5 months (roughly)"
