Joker of a Coworker Names Their Kid After Their Fandom, Criticizes Woman For Doing the Same

Another round of "Millennial Fandom Baby Names" has kicked off this week. In one corner, we have this coworker who idolizes the Joker and Harley Quinn, and in the other, we have this Harry Potter "Potterhead." The hypocritical coworker is criticizing the Harry Potter fan for wanting to name their child after a Harry Potter character. The thing is, the coworker has already named their kid after a character from their fandom too.

The thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmItheAsshole subreddit by the Harry Potter fan, u/Creative_Chance_5077, after the altercation. There it has earned eight thousand upvotes and the overwhelming support of commenters. 

Posters to r/AITA (Am I The Asshole) seek third-party insight into disputes and disagreements that occur within their own lives. Commenters will weigh in to let the poster know whether they were in the wrong and share part of or the whole blame in the incident.

Commenters here were quick to criticize the coworker for being so hypocritical. The coworker is a huge fan of comics and "Often compares her and her boyfriend to Harley Quinn and Joker." The poster notes that the coworker has even gone as far as to name her daughter after Harley Quinn; while the name isn't listed, we can take a pretty educated guess as to what it might be. 

For a start, as commenters have already addressed, worshipping the relationship of the Joker and Harley is hugely problematic. There is a sordid history of manipulation and abuse there. The determination in some circles to gloss over those foundations of their relationship is, quite frankly, disturbing. 

For seconds, when you've already named your child after one of your favorite characters… You don't have a leg to stand on when criticizing someone for wanting to do the same thing. 

For thirds, we Millennials need to stop naming our kids after our fandoms and then forcing our obsessions down their throats. 

Now, excuse me, I need to pick up my kids, Mitth'raw'nuruodo and Galadriel, from school.
