According to Love Meow, the stray cat that they got a call about was wandering outside at an elderly couple's residence. Their son, as he was coming to visit, noticed that the cat's eyes were crusted and shut. Wanting to see what was going on, the man followed the cat as she led him back to her family. There, he discovered three tabby kittens that this cat had been caring for.

"He contacted our rescue for help. At the time, the cat was thought to have bad eye infections that sealed her eyes closed," Mary Huckabee, CBCR Officer, recalled. And as soon as they had an available foster home for the cat and kittens, they welcomed them in with open arms.

Two of the three kittens were malnourished and showed signs of an upper respiratory infection (URI). The mom cat, later named Clue, was given food and could not stop scarfing it down. The moment she finally did, she returned to her comfy, warm nest with her babies - Candyland, Monopoly and Chutes and Ladders - to let them nurse on her belly.

Clue's eye drainage eventually improved, and once it did, they noticed that she didn't have normal eye tissue and was completely blind. "Our vet thinks she has congenital microphthalmia, born with very small or absent eyes. She will need enucleation to prevent recurrent infections," Mary explained. "Being blind doesn't bother her at all. Mama Clue was very protective of her babies."

Now that they were in a safe home, had warm beds and medical care, the kittens regained their appetite and began putting on weight. And after a week of TLC, their eyes all cleared up. Whenever thy were taken out of the cube to be weighed, Clue kept close tabs on them, making sure that they would be returned quickly to their nest and into her arms.

"Occasionally she would be surprised when a baby would meow from a place where she didn't expect." At three weeks of age, the kittens started getting more mobile and eager to start exploring on their own. When one or all three of them embarked on an adventure outside the mama-approved safe zone, Clue wasn't too pleased.

"She would carry them back to 'their place' over and over before she realized she was fighting a losing battle and that her babies were now ready to explore." Clue is very affectionate and really seeks out attention from her people. She leans in for scritches or flops on her side to signal that her belly needs to be rubbed. "She starts making biscuits as soon as her foster mom enters the enclosure."

"Even though she was an outdoor cat for her whole life and blind, she figured out the littler box right away, and is thrilled to be living a life of luxury now." The three kittens along with Clue have been enjoying their lives in foster care, and with time, their personalities started really emerging.

"Candyland is sassy and likes to talk. She is the most adventurous of the kittens. Monopoly is a laid-back girl. She loves to roll around and get belly rubs. She is starting to practice her pouncing skills on her sisters," Mary added. "Chutes and Ladders was initially the most standoffish, but now that she doesn't have to get drops in her eyes multiple times a day, she is the first to waddle over and climb into her foster mom's lap."

Clue is clearly loving her life as an indoor cat now. Never will she again have to worry about food or shelter or roaming the streets blind. She will be taken care of for the rest of her life, and we are sure that she will find the kind of loving forever home that she deserves.
