The story is as old as time itself– a family finds a stray animal, spends weeks trying to find its owners and its home, and then they wind up falling in love with the pet, giving up the search, and keeping them as a part of the family. But, we've also heard the story a few too many times where after the family grows to include that special animal, the original owners come out of the woodwork and demand their dog, cat, or guinea pig back. Unfortunately, another one of those stories hit Reddit this week, with a concerned pet owner turning to the Am I The Asshole subreddit to ask if there was any chance they might lose their beloved cat Roxo.
We'll let the Redditor tell you his story in a second, but before he starts, we want to highlight a few things to keep in mind. This whole situation started because the old owner in question, a new neighbor of OP's, was an irresponsible cat owner and not only didn't spay her cat, but let her roam outdoors in the neighborhood as well. This can cause irreparable damage to a local area's ecosystem, and can also greatly endanger your pets, as you'll see in a second. The family that took this poor kitten in deserve a lot of praise, not only for that act of humanity, but also for dealing with this crazy neighbor in the process. Still, it sounds like this situation is ending up exactly the way it should, so all we can say is well done OP, and we love you Roxo! Check it out down below.
What happened in this family's background is a nightmare scenario for any animal lover. If you see a kitten on its own in the wild, it's likely that its mother just went to get some food. So, you definitely don't want to move the kitten. That being said, if you live in an area where there are a lot of coyotes, that can be incredibly stressful. This family did a great job of keeping an eye on the cat, giving it some water, and then moving it inside when the time was right.
It's a shame that this woman had to move into this neighborhood, and an even bigger shame she didn't take proper care of her cats in the first place. Like we discussed before, it's incredibly important to spay and neuter your pets, as Bob Barker told us for all those years, and by not doing so this woman created this entire unfortunate situation.
