Font - So here's the situation... I hired a pet sitter to come by and feed and water my rabbit twice a day while I'm traveling for the holidays. I'm paying them $80 a day for two visits. The person who I am paying has their own pet sitting business in my area.

Font - The pet sitter came by a week or so before the sitting gig to meet my rabbit and get walked through everything. We discussed that I would like two visits a day about 12 hours apart. She didn't think that would be possible so we settled on a schedule that was she'd come by around 8 am and then again at 7pm. She made a show of programming reminders in her phone.

Font - We went over the locks to the gate and house and put two sets of keys in a lockbox for her. Holiday comes around and she went by earlier than we discussed on Christmas. All fine. But then she didn't attempt another visit until 16 hours later (much later than we agreed). I know because I have a bunny cam installed (which I informed her of in the visit).

Font - When I called to ask why she hadn't been by yet she told me that actually they were having trouble getting into my bedroom because she had locked the door the night before. There is not a key to that door. She calls a locksmith to let her in. Anyway she sent me an invoice for $150. She says that locking my bedroom door wasn't her fault because I didn't leave a note saying not to lock it.

Font - I responded saying I won't pay more than 50%. I think I'm being generous to pay that since we didn't discuss locking bedroom and it definitely was unlocked when she got there originally. AITA? EDIT: she talked to us before she called the locksmith (when we called to ask where she was she told us she was outside the room trying to get in and about to call a locksmith). We told her she could probably pick the lock but she said she would rather call a locksmith. Who would pay wasn't discusse

Font - EDIT: Thanks everyone. The comments made me feel like I'm kind of a sucker for paying at all. Also, some people are telling me that $80 a day is outrageous. First thing is that my rabbit has a medical condition that means she needs some extra attention. I was willing to pay a higher fee because I tried boarding my rabbit at a rabbit rescue last August and they ended up sending her to the bunny emergency room (there was some incompetence on the rescue's part since I told them some things a

I did some pet sitting when I was younger, and I never locked a bedroom door. Why on earth would anyone do such a thing? Also, $80 seems steep to care for a rabbit twice a day.

I'm curious how a locksmith was even involved without your knowledge/consent. Don't they typically require proof of residency/ownership? I hate to be skeptical here but is it possible she made the story up to cover being late and is trying to get extra money out of you now?

She can't be blamed if a couple of things come up missing because you didn't specifically tell her not to steal them, right? I wouldn't pay a penny towards the locksmith, and I'd be seriously considering not paying her the full amount for not following your agreement. I'd also be leaving poor reviews on Google, Facebook and Yelp so that oth
