Surprise parties are joyful events, especially for the person being celebrated. It means that the people in your life care about you enough to come together and create a special surprise, just for you. The only person that is meant to be surprised at the party is the person it was thrown for, not the person who threw it. In today's 'Am I the A$$hole?' post, OP told us about how she meticulously planned a surprise party for her husband. All was going well until he decided to jokingly smash the cake in her face. This is a tradition that many people are familiar with, but OP claims she's socially awkward, so she's questioning if her reaction is normal. She yelled at all of her husband's friends to get out, and then ran up to her room and cried. We get that her husband meant it as a joke, but clearly he didn't take his wife's feelings into account.
