Relationships are never simply. It's a constant give and take and it doesn't always end up pretty—unlike what those Disney movies told you growing up. Humans are ever-evolving, we're a constant flow of change, so your idea on how a relationship work also needs room to grow and change. TikToker Emily Joy wanted to share a piece of unique dating advice that has worked really well for her that makes it when there is a problem between them, it isn't her vs him, it is them vs the problem. With this piece of advice, she also asked her viewers to add what they've done that's rescued a relationship.
"We have an imaginary person who we blame all of our problems on. His name is "Scott" and he hides all of our stuff, and he leaves our clothes on the floor, and he never does the dishes and we HATE him."
"Look, relationships are all based on contracts—some of those contracts are written, like your marriage license and some of those contracts are unwritten like, who takes the dog out in the morning. But all those contracts are based on human beings, and human beings are constantly changing. So it only makes sense that you would change those contracts as you change as humans. The only problem is, you get so tied in to how the contract was supposed to be or how you thought it was going to be or how it played out in your head, that you don't see there are other options. Which makes you feel like you only have to stay in this contract that doesn't work for you or leave…"
"Repeat the following to each other: 'I loved who you were when we got married, I love who you are today, and I will love whoever you need to turn into tomorrow. I'm here with you throughout it all.'"
"If you are upset about something that involves your partner, wait 24-hrs. If you are still upset about that after 24-hrs, speak up about it within 48-hrs… If you forget about it after 24-hrs, it probably wasn't that big of a deal to begin with."
"Have your own room. Even if it's just an office that has a bed in it or a couch you can sleep on… You should have a space that is your's. That when the door is shut the rule is you knock, and if I say, 'no, don't come in' you respect that, you give me my space."
