She clearly has a good head on her shoulders and is doing what she can to get back on track. 27 years later I have a great (adult) child and a very lucrative career, because our families were supportive. I get being disappointed that your child made a mistake that can derail the successful life you thought they'd have, but this reaction feels way over the top.
