Landlords are— well… lords. Their power over their tenant is totalitarian — they set the rate a tenant has to pay to access housing and, on a whim, can send the tenant scrambling for a new place.

They then directly influence the tenant's success in finding a new home; should the tenant have demanded too many repairs —or argued about the landlord withholding their bond— they could end up on the street.
This dynamic dramatically influences society globally, and there are so many terrible and predatory landlords out there that it's just kind of a thing.
This is why it's so good to see stories where the tables are turned, and the tenant is able to get one up on a scummy landlord, as is the case in this story. When Reddit user u/dean_of_gcc found themselves faced with the adversity of an abusive property manager, they were able to gather up enough evidence to get them arrested for the wanton towing of their vehicle.
