'The company sent me this invoice...': Employee receives invoice from employer after quitting without giving two weeks' notice

There have been a lot of stories floating around the wider web about people quitting terrible employers without giving notice. As you might imagine, it is taken with varying degrees of reception, with reactions ranging from calm to off-the-wall. When you're trying to run a business, it's never easy to fill in gaps on short notice, not ever helped by the fact that owners/executives generally require their companies to be run on as few staff as possible to save labor costs. 

There's certainly a hidden cost to understaffing; it can rush you into making a hire you wouldn't have otherwise made, and not having the extra hands on board can cost you sales and clients or reduce customer satisfaction. Employers generally don't worry about this when pushing lower labor percentages but will always suddenly wonder what's gone wrong when more employees quit and it starts to affect the bottom line. 

This employer attempted to reduce that hidden cost by passive-aggressively sending their former employee an invoice for an "emergency staffing fee," sparking discussion in this viral online thread. The poster elaborates that the employer was the owner of a doggy daycare, which makes the mental images all the more hilarious.
