There's certainly a hidden cost to understaffing; it can rush you into making a hire you wouldn't have otherwise made, and not having the extra hands on board can cost you sales and clients or reduce customer satisfaction. Employers generally don't worry about this when pushing lower labor percentages but will always suddenly wonder what's gone wrong when more employees quit and it starts to affect the bottom line.
This employer attempted to reduce that hidden cost by passive-aggressively sending their former employee an invoice for an "emergency staffing fee," sparking discussion in this viral online thread. The poster elaborates that the employer was the owner of a doggy daycare, which makes the mental images all the more hilarious.
