It's that time of year where every social media platform is flooded with people proudly showing off their outfits for Halloween. Everywhere we look, there are people doing uncannily faithful representations of their favorite characters, referencing niche drama from the year that has just been, or putting on a pair of cat ears and calling it a day (they know that they'll get likes for it, they're hot).
These efforts are commendable, but they can't compete with perhaps the best costume competition of the season: Japanese website dailyportalz's annual "mundane Halloween" contest. The aim is exactly like it sounds, asking contestants to come up with the most boring and everyday ideas they can think of to make into a costume. There were so many good entries this year that @nick_kapur compiled a thread of his favorites, and there are quite a range. While all of these costumes may be banal, they offer no shortage of entertainment.
