Font - r/tifu Posted by u/throwawaypossumlover 2 days ago TIFU by thinking my date called me handsome S Throwaway account because she also uses Reddit, and this is probably the most embarrassing thing that has happened to me. I was on my first ever date with a girl I really liked. She was pretty, liked playing video games, listened to the same music as me, we even had a playlist together. She's also the first girl that has ever shown any interest in me. We decided to go out somewhere to eat, and

Font - Halfway through eating, she accidentally got some of the broth on her glasses. I told her to sit still as I reached towards her and cleaned it with one of the tissues, and I don't know if it was the noisiness or my dumbfuckery, but after I sat back down I thought she told me "you look handsome." I smiled and said thank you, to which she looked back confused and asked if I was being sarcastic or genuine. I was even more confused by that, telling her of course I was being genuine. She chuck

Font - I will never forget the words she said next. "I said you smell." More silence followed and she burst out laughing as she saw the pure shock and embarrassment on my face. Later I tried to salvage it by infodumping about programming languages. Made it worse The date ended shortly thereafter, no kiss or plans for a second one; just an awkward splitting of the bill and "See you later." FML TL;DR; I was on my first date ever with the first girl that ever liked me. When I was wiping something o

Font - EDIT: Just clarifying after reading some of the comments: If you're trying to imagine what I look like, it's the generic virgin loser computer science guy. For everyone telling me to shower, I did yesterday, the day before the date(AT NIGHT), and my hands smelled fine.(I think) I couldn't do it right before the date cause I have coily hair which takes a long time to dry Edit 2: after reading some comments and messages I got; I don't think she meant to be a b or be rude, cause she laughed

Commenters had lots of advice...and some gentle roasting.

Font - +3 - 1 day ago Most people, I think, wouldn't really want to tell someone else they smell. Assuming OP's date wasn't (trying to be) a jerk, I don't want to imaging how bad the smell was, to think that just the proximity of his HAND made her actually speak up. JohnArce

Font - xantec15 1 day ago People become nose blind to themselves. And although it is awkward for everyone involved, if someone tells them that they smell bad they can know to do something about it.

Font - Marry Me Duffman - 2 days ago I stopped going out with a guy because his hygiene wasn't good. He offered me his jacket during a movie and it smelled terrible, but I was too polite to say anything. I thought maybe it's a fluke. The next time I saw him wearing it, it smelled the same. We were at another movie and I made the mistake of saying it was cold again. I had to backpeddle pronto saying it wasn't that cold after all. Some people clean their body just fine but not their home or clothe

Font - Illumijonny7 2 days ago Right? I imagine he was nervous (plus probably awkward to begin with) but dating 101 is that you can always steer the conversation towards them and what they're into. I got bored just thinking about this dude droning on about programming languages.

Rectangle - Womblue 2 days ago Frankly I wouldn't talk about programming languages on a date even if I was ASKED about them, let alone UNPROMPTED.

Font - powerposepenguin 2 days ago Ohh I'm so sorry you had to go through that. But don't worry too much about it, you might have touched something that smells bad. It's definitely not the end of the world :) and you'll definitely find someone else that likes you. This wasn't the only chance you had in life to find a gf

Font - illcrx 2 days ago You should ask her. Really. Its already done and you can get what really happened, it doesn't have to be today it could be a in a week. But do the awkward things, in your brain its the most horrible thing in the world to do but in hers and everyone else's its a non-issue. If its already done then its a no lose scenario but you will gain A TON by doing this uncomfortable thing, and its risk free! But its super uncomfortable. But do uncomfortable so you'll be better next t

Font - speckhuggarn. 1 day ago You're gonna have more good and bad dates, just take it as a lesson to use for next date. If you are stumbling, always easier to ask them question about themselves, and they'll keep talking. Also, always shower just before the date, like one hour before.

Font - zabts 2 days ago Did you not do the #1 guy rule? It doesn't matter what you look like but as long as you smell bad you'll never have a chance...
