Gigantic 15lbs Red Tegu Lizard Becomes Best Friends With a House of Rescue Doggos, Becoming an Honorary Member of the Pack

Conventionally, most people don't have a lizard as a pet. The first, most common house animals a person might have are cats and dogs, but what about the honorary reptilian doggo that joins the pack regardless of expectations? Kato, the enormous red tegu lizard, has joined a pack of misfits, becoming an accidental pooch in the process.

Dani, an LA woman and rescuer of quadrupeds of all kinds, fosters an entire kingdom of pets, including dogs, cats, lizards, frogs, and the world's most charismatic red tegu. A tegu is a monstrous breed of lizard that is from the monitor family. Monitors can be known to be a little feisty, but despite their intimidating appearance, they're absolute chillers. Kato hangs out in the house and on the lawn with all of his furry buddies and it seems like nobody really minds that he's cold blooded, has scales, and sports a dashing forked tongue.

Kato lives the good life of a spoiled rescue dog, eating fresh meat, eggs, and fruits every day and receiving pampering showers all the time. He cuddles like a doggo, he hangs with the doggos, and he eats like a king. Maybe Kato is even the leader of the pack in this house?

Although it's controversial for people to have reptiles with their other pets, for disease reasons and lizard endangerment, Dani has trained her dogs to be peaceful around the lizards and washes Kato and his reptilian brothers thoroughly. In fact, Kato gets regular spa treatments with full showers, exfoliating outdoor hose baths, and warm water soaks when he's shedding.

Kato's shedding is a miracle on its own. Dani could probably write an entire book on paper made from Kato's leftover skin sheets. Once their adults, tegu lizards can shed up to 2-3 times a year! Tegu lizards are super cool pets and go against most misconceptions for carnivorous reptiles. Kato is the best example of a red scaly good boy. It kind of makes you want to commit the next 12 years of your life to raising a honorary reptilian pupper in your next home. Just make sure you have plenty of quail eggs and fresh fruit to go around.
