You know, as people who have had cats for a very long time, there are some things that we do with them that we don't even question anymore. We open the faucets for them when they ask for it, we help them catch the bugs that they want by lifting them up, and we talk to them. A lot. Over the years, we have noticed ourselves saying some ridiculous things to our cats. And you know what's the funniest thing about all of it? Sometimes, our cats even talk back.

Listen, cats have a lot of things they want to say. It's our fault for not understanding them purrfectly. Oh, wait. We do. It really does amaze us sometimes how well we understand our cats. Every once in a while, we'll find ourselves saying something to them - yes, to our cats - and turning our heads in anticipation of their response. Because we know they'll respond, and we know how. The only thing that surprises us is that their response comes in the form of a meow rather than an actual word.
