There aren't many reasons for Americans to travel across the country to visit Louisiana. That means that there's just one MAJORLY inconvenient holiday for the locals to endure in New Orleans– Mardi Gras. Celebrated for centuries, this is one of those holidays that lost a lot of it's original meaning and cultural relevance and has simply become more about costumes, music, beads, and bitties, but there's one long-standing tradition that has local NOLA folks more excited than anything about the 47 days before Easter and that's the King Cake. These cracked out cinnamon rolls are the reason many people make it through the season, gradually gaining weight from drinking, celebration, and because that little knife that gets left in the King Cake box for easy accessibility throughout the day. So go ahead and gorge, it's not called Fat Tuesday for no reason. Live it up.
