In the ancient days before the dawn of man and their magical farming, animals of all kinds lived together in harmony, nourishing themselves off the bounty of the land. Alas, famine struck, and food became scarce, so the mighty Pelican King sought the aid of a disreputable sorcerer to help his legions of aquatic avians that were in dire need of food.

And so the sorcerer placed a great and powerful magic upon the pelicans and their descendants so that they would be able to eat all manners of weird plants and wacky animals. But with a magic that great, there is always a negative effect, and that is exactly why pelicans (and their little cousins, the seagulls) are never sated, constantly on the quest for more food to guzzle down!
