Not getting a promotion after you put in your hardest work never feels good—in fact, it makes you feel like punching a wall, right? After all those positive reviews, hours, and trust you put into your upper management it feels more like a personal attack than "just business." If it were something like getting dumped or a friend betrayal, then an emotion response is acceptable, even expected. But since this is a "professional workplace" then you cannot let your true colors show. Yes, wouldn't it be great to just tell your toxic boss to "f off" and leave that place with a mic drop? But if you do that, then you lose everything you worked for that could potentially help you further your career. So you have to bite your tongue and true to leave with as much grace as possible, no matter how hard it is. Some would say that when it comes to professionalism, you always have to choose the high road.
It turns out, those some people who say that are on Reddit. A college intern turned to the subreddit r/careerguidance after feeling betrayed by his management. He worked hard for a promotion after his two-year internship was up and felt very confident that he would get it. However, when the time came and he brought it up, they said they were unable to do so at that time. A few days later, however, he found out the other intern got the promotion. Everything in his body tells him to rage quit and burn those toxic bridges, but, unfortunately, that's not the name of the business game and the internet is talking some sense into him to save the future of his career.
