Toxic organizations breed toxic behavior, begetting toxic people. Unfortunately, those that conform to the organization's less-than-ideal ideals tend to do better and prosper, rising far above their deserved rank and encouraging their unfavorable behavior towards others that would ideally be derided.
We've seen stories like this before, where an employee is singled out and collectively gaslit by their coworkers on behalf of getting them to conform to bizarre organizational directives. In this case, this server handed in their two-week's notice and was met with backlash from those who they worked with.
It's not unusual for a departing employee to suddenly fall out of favor with bosses and coworkers they once were close to. The reality here is that—when this happens—it's probably coming from a place of jealous abandonment. What starts as a feeling of "how could they leave us in this terrible place" turns, forming misplaced anger—which eventually results in collectively blaming the departed worker for things that were never in the realm of their responsibility in the first place.
