The Central United States gets a lot of slack for being boring. Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska: these are states known for little other than having a lot of vast open fields. With a geographic landscape like that, no wonder this area (and northern Texas) is the tornado capital of America, aka Tornado Alley.
I grew up on the bottom tip of Tornado Alley, so my childhood consisted of a lot of hiding in the laundry room with my whole family and our dogs during tornado warnings. These weren't always so bad, but getting woken up at 3 AM to sit on the floor for thirty minutes is less than desirable. Tornados are so terrifying because they can destroy your house instantly. If a tornado's going over your home, sitting in a windowless room isn't going to help you. These tornado memes won't help you much either, but it's the thought that counts.
