Weekly Internet Roundup: Imaginary Plane Passengers, Hot Dog Eating Competitions, and Tweet Limits vs. Threads

Happy Friday, it's roundup time again. This week has gifted us an eclectic mix of public freakouts of both the tech billionaire and normal person variety. Also, a side order of hot dogs. Let's get into it.

Imaginary Person on a Plane

People acting insane while on an aircraft is a legitimate cottage industry for viral videos nowadays — so much so that they have to be especially wacky in order to gain the amount of attention one clip has been getting recently. In a now-deleted TikTok, a woman on a flight about to take off ends up grounding the plane after an impassioned rant about a person who was ‘not real’ sat near her on the plane.

Sure enough, there appeared to be nobody where she was pointing, leaving viewers to speculate on the backstory to this odd event. Air rage is only getting weirder as the 21st century marches on.

Hotdogs = The Spirit of Independence Day

If there's one thing that July 4th isn't complete without, it's wieners. This is the logic behind Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating contest, that was once again won by hot dog gulping machine Joey Chestnut. So determined was Mr. Chestnut to regain his title that he pushed for the competition to be put back on after it was originally canceled due to inclement weather. Talk about dedication to the bit (and the Twitter reactions).

Threads Doesn't Have to Limit Your Post Viewing

The Twitter universe is never not suffering these days, but the past week has seen one of the more impactful gut punches it has experienced in a while. First up, Elon sent the platform into a state of shock by announcing a post viewing limit of first 600, then 1000 tweets per day for unverified users. Then, just when everyone was wondering if that was another proclamation that had gone quietly into Elon's Good Ideas graveyard, Meta came to fight.

Dropping Threads, their long-awaited Twitter rival/clone, it's reported that the bird app is threatening to sue Zuckerberg and co for their new creation. Time will tell if it actually gets off the ground.

This Doesn't Follow Usage Instructions

You know what we don't get enough of on the highly censored mainstream internet these days? Gratuitous, nonsexual nudity. It's kind of gross, pretty funny, and is a great way to shock the many puritanical internet users out there in a way that isn't wildly offensive.

As a result, we have to give some kudos to Kevin Leonardo. Over the past couple of weeks, he has made his anus famous in a how-to guide on using Nair hair removal cream on this sensitive body part.

Showing the world where the sun doesn't shine mere seconds into this YouTube video, millions of people have decided to scar themselves by viewing the unnecessarily extra footage. Gotta respect the lengths he was willing to go for some old-school shock factor.

So concludes another few days of the ever changing ups and downs on the internet. Time to take stock and wait for some other ridiculous things to unfold. Until next time!
