Sometimes, the games and manipulation start from the interview, with the hiring party pulling ticks, like showing up late, to "test" candidates, claiming to be testing for traits like "loyalty" and "patience" when really they're just looking to see how much of a pushover the candidates are.
Really, if you're pulling stunts like this, you're probably discouraging the best candidates from working at your company, which you probably think is fine since you're obviously looking for desperate and pliable workers whom you can exploit. But if you doing this to candidates as a genuine mistake, it's time to reassess your interview process and maybe have a backup interview team present just in case you get tied up with something urgent. That way the backup team can conduct the interview and maybe land you some experienced top candidates.

The candidate writes that they had scheduled an interview for an upper management position at a big box retailer. They arrived for the interview early, but when the time for the interview came, no one arrived. A member of the team apologized and said that the interviewer would be with them shortly, but after waiting for 45 minutes, the candidate decided that it was a point of disrespect and decided to leave.
