Font - Got offered an entry level role at a medium sized concrete company, on the contracting team. Had to travel three hours to where I'd be relocating too, to complete medical, drug test, paperwork, etc. Payrate was a dollar less than I wanted, and below market rates, so asked the boss if there was any wiggle room. He said he'd have 'talk' about it. Fast forward three days, after uniform sizing and everything, I drop in with some paperwork and had HR inform me that my job offer has been withdr

Font - Accomplished_Emu_658. 8h Negotiating is normal. Any good job that didn't want to pay more would tell you no they cannot, not pull the offer. And walk as soon as you got one with better pay? Of course thats why you are there, for the pay nothing else. ... Reply 4.2k

Font - loltheinternetz • 6h This definitely shows they don't want to hire people who are motivated to look out for their own interests. They just want people who will take what's given to them and keep their heads down. This tracks. ... 4933

Font - pianoplayah 5h so true! Like yeah, that's why companies offer "competitive" pay. to compete with other companies for good employees. Duh. So if you don't want to compete...that's your choice I guess. The response should have been, "and you'd fire me as soon as you find someone who will do my job for less. Which is basically what you're doing now." 4211 +

Font - EsPotD. 4h When I was promoted into a new role at work they made an offer and I told them I was expecting 10k more than their first offer. They offered 5 more and I told them I was really expecting 10 more. They took it away and came back the next week and offered the 10. Negotiating is normal. They can easily say no, we can't pay more, do you want the job still? And that's that. I've never seen a company pull the offer because you asked for more. That's craziness. 480

Font - snurfy_mcgee • 6h Yep. I interviewed a place where they had an 'open vacation' policy...it's a new concept that corporations are using which sounds good at first, they say ',oh there's no set vacation bank you just take what you need' ...why would they do this? Because they've done studies and employees will take less vacation under policies like this because they don't want to appear to be abusing the system. Especially if the management team pushes work down your throat, you won't just

Font - Anyway long story short I was coming from a position that had a great guaranteed vacation policy so that wasn't going to fly for me. I told them that in the nicest possible way and the actual CEO replied to the email with an indignant response and a 'were a family here' vibe. I stood firm in my reply and they withdrew the offer, told em to get fukd

Font - EDIT: several people reminded me of the other reason they do this...if you don't have a set PTO policy in place then you don't accrue vacation days. So lets say you worked 6 months and didn't take any PTO and wanted to take a week off for a family vacation, they can fire you at this point and you are owed NOTHING for vacation days, they've eliminated a benefit from your employment and told you they are doing this FOR YOU. Bull- fucking-shit! ... 204

Font - StercusAccidit85 • 7h Always negotiate. The interview process is for the company, but also for the applicant. Know. Your. Worth. The fact that they were willing to let you go for $1 means they're a barrel full of dicks. I know it's disappointing in the moment, but you're truly better off. I liken this situation to a woman talking to a man and thinking something's off with him...and later finding out he's Ted Bundy. ... Reply 153
