When you're online dating, you trust that the person you're seeing on the other end is genuine. Of course you want them to have a genuine personality– something that matches seamlessly with your own humor, trauma, and interests– but when you're dealing with strangers online, it's also hard to fight the worry that they're not who they say they are. Catfishing is a term coined decades ago and used to describe that horrible hoodwinkery that goes down when you meet an online companion in person, only to find out that they look nothing like they said they did. In extreme cases, a catfish incident is more than deception… it's a little scary.

In this case, one woman was caught in the cross-hairs of a dastardly catfish, although instead of running the other direction, she decided to give the guy a chance despite his unexpected appearance.
