You know how people get flabbergasted by the fact that the year 1970 no longer happened thirty years ago? I think a lot of us are starting to get that way with memes. Many might start thinking of rage comics or LOLcats when we ponder the internet a decade previously, but 2013 was the year that debuted Doge and the Harlem Shake.

I realize that time seems to move faster as we get older, but the meme world has truly worked at a lightning pace to make us all feel irrelevant. I don't think that trying to be aware of the new trends is a lost cause, but it does mean that we all have to be a little more discerning with the memes that we choose to consume.
