'[It] was the end of the HOA': HOA president's plan backfires after recruiting landowner only to revoke his property rights, forcing president to resign after misidentifying property
Sneaky people try to throw you under the bus, grinning from ear to ear while they do it, having no shame or care for the consequences their actions will hold for you. And this HOA president was one sneaky man, indeed. One person took to u/maliciouscompliance to explain how the president's plan backfired, resulting in his own resignation… But let's not get ahead of ourselves quite yet, as this story begins with OP, buying a large chunk of property over 30 years ago, with a plan to farm it.
Instead, life unraveled a bit differently for OP, as the HOA president had other plans for his property. The HOA president offered to buy half of OP's property, to which OP said yes (the beginning of the end). Combined with a loan from the bank, the money that the HOA president offered OP for half his property allowed OP to build a house on the remaining acres. It might be worth mentioning that the HOA president in question technically wasn't the president quite yet… there wasn't an HOA at the time. But many years later, that is how it came to be, so it is important to paint him in that light.
