My two bosses sat together with me al couple of weeks ago and told me that I have to work harder if I don't want to be fired. I asked my main boss what she meant exactly. Like what things exactly have to improve so I know how to improve. She couldn't state even one actual thing. All I heard

were things like "you have so much potential", "there is room for improvement" and so on. Things that are so unprecise, it didn't helped me at all. For more than two weeks I got to work extra early, worked overtime and tried to find something to do even though there wasn't much.

For extra info: I work(ed) for a governmental science Ressort in the library. There have been literal weeks without customers or a call so it was always a hassle to find something to do. After the initial meeting, I asked my first boss if we could have weekly feedback meetings

so I know when she thought I'd improve. Last week I came to work and immediately got asked to "come follow her". We went directly to the higher boss. She almost exploded and they seriously talked me for 20 minutes. straight. To the point I asked "what the do you want me to do, and we

aren't you capable of just telling me?" She than seriously stated, that she already - precisely - told me what she wanted me to change (she never did) And when i asked again what exactly I did wrong the last weeks, she cherry picked one scenario about how I forgot to note that I had a customer on the phone the

other day. Again, the phone rings like every 2-3 months. In my world it's not such a big deal to forget one step in a thing I hardly did 4-5 times the whole time I worked there. The other chef shouted at me about how "disrespectful" I am. And that was the moment I said "you know what? This

doesn't make any sense whatsoever anymore, what are you want from me?" And without any further words he gave me the already written notice of termination to sign. I signed it, packed my stuff, got to the doctor and got a sick note for a week. My contract ends in the end of September and I'll do the

absolute minimum until that point. Took me 4 days to realize what actually happened and reconsider my life choices. Now, that all that stress is off my shoulders, I'm so happy. I have the luck to live in Germany so for another year I'm save without the need to find a new job and

I probably going to start studying at a Uni next year and gonna 'chill my lazy a: until then. I'm so fed up by this public service bull. I worked for almost 10 years in the field and I would do almost anything else at this point. Sorry for the rant and the English mistakes, and thanks for reading.

RobRenWhi · Classic. They wanted you or your position gone and was hoping you would quit instead of them terminating you so you won't be able to collect unemployment benefits

or they won't have to extend benefits beyond employment like COBRA. But isn't so refreshing to walk off a job while they stand there with their mouth open in shock?! I did it once and I can still see the stupid look on that s face! b

FedoraBoy OP. Best is, I still work there until end of sep. and they act like nothing happened. I don't see why I should do any more than the absolute bare minimum of being there when I have to, and nobody, especially my two bosses even mind it

anymore. They know I'll be gone anyway and I don't even care for anything there anymore. Just go there so I at least get the last two full salaries and am really looking forward to the extended "vacation" I'll be on the next months after that. Still no clue what they were thinking.

How about spending your year experimenting with different types of work that you might actually enjoy? Not sure what skills you have but now's the best time to give that some thought.
