Explanation. So a couple of days ago, the announcement came down from on high how we're going to be doing the annual Christmas Party. They mentioned the activities (catered breakfast, bad Christmas Sweater Contest, have a giveaway for the vendor goodies we collect through the year, etc) and one of the activities was something I didn't

recognize. They were going to try this year to do a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Never having heard that before, I asked what that was. When it was explained, I nodded. I had heard that before but since I lived in New England before this, I had always known of it as a Yankee Swap. The office woman who I guessed was

behind the idea seemed annoyed that she had to explain it to me but I shrugged and thought nothing of it. The next day they announced that they put up the sign-up for the White Elephant on the company Bulletin Board, and I got a wild hair up my a ■. I quickly printed off a little paper sign that read...

Are you kidding? I mean maybe I can go halfsies on a light grey badger but a White Elephant? In this economy?" ...and stuck it on the board under the signup sheet. I took a picture so I could show my wife what I did.

Yesterday I find myself in the HR office explaining my intent with the joke and that someone at work (name withheld for anonymity) had felt targeted and triggered. The sign had been taken down and were it not for that picture I took of it, I

might have gotten into trouble since it was reported that I was belittling someone's beliefs and traditions. When they actually got to see the sign they smirked and said that what I had done was fine and in line with our company's usual permitted shenanigans.

My guess and I can't confirm nor deny it is that it was the woman who suggested the game at the party and that she felt that I was being an to her for having the idea.

How about a beige rabbit?? Albino squirrel??? Inflation is getting worse everyday, bleached mice don't cost what they used too!!!

    ● awalktojericho 4 hr. ago How in the world is a gift swap a firmly held belief? And why are they forcing it on the whole office? File your own complaint about that.

Temporary_Nail_6468. 32 min. ago I signed up for the gift swap thing for a long time. I was (lower level) management so it was expected. The last time I did it I put a lot of thought into the gift. I'd got the general manager and he was a big fisher person so

I went and bought him a fairly expensive lure. It was within the price range of like I don't know $25 but at the higher end and I thought that was pretty pricey for one lure. Turns out somebody in upper management got me and they had the HR assistant go buy me a gift card. I never did it again.

BlueRFR3100 · 50 min. ago. edited 39 min. ago HR was focused on the big issues. They got a complaint about someone harassing a co-worker and investigated because harassment is a big issue. Once they got all the facts, which the complainant conveniently "forgot" to provide them, HR realized that the complaint was without merit.

courtiers in turn couldn't let the elephant die or get rid of it, since that would be seen as hideously rude and an insult to the king. So they had to pay for the maintenance of this expensive, long lived, light sensitive animal. It was indeed intended to be economically ruinous.

TumbleweedHuman2934. 2 hr. ago Uh what exactly was supposed to have been offensive about? Granted the joke wasn't that funny (kind of a dad joke IMO) but not offensive in the least. I can't see the problem here. It's one of those jokes you hear, roll your eyes and groan but

that's about it. Someone was clearly just looking for a reason to be offended and complain and you just happened to provide just enough ammo for the cause. So sorry OP.

SouthernRambles Blog 1 hr. ago Karen's will be Karens! Some people just have absolutely no sense of humor! I don't even see how in the world it would be considered triggering? How was it an insult? It was a funny joke about the economy and anybody with any sense could see it for what it was 700
