As a server of seven years, I absolutely adore hearing/reading about those few times in our professional careers when Karens and Kens are shut tf down when they're being ridiculous/annoying/belligerent. Those few precious moments are what keeps me going when I'm in the weeds and regretting every decision that has led me to serving lol.

TheEmpressIsIn · 4 hr. ago NYC, legendary fine dining establishment, Friday night. Ten minutes before kitchen close, I get a two top that wants the five course tasting menu. The kitchen isn't thrilled, but we will do it.
  • 06
They are the only people in the dining room by the time I drop their first course, which they finish. One gets up, goes to bathroom. Then the other.
  • 07
Second course comes, but no one is at the table. Ten minutes later and they are not back. Kitchen is miffed, because they want to get this tasting menu out; we are closed after all.
  • 08
Twenty minutes later, they're still missing, and the manager has an idea what's happening. Goes down to the f bathrooms and... they're ing!!! Not for long though; she breaks them up and informs them it is time to leave
  • 09
and they will not be finishing their tasting menu. Woman leaves, her date stays to sheepishly pay the bill, to which we added 50% gratuity in lieu of calling the police. What a night!

Lint6 5 hr. ago ● Once had someone complain that their service was slow on a Friday night. I explained to him that... 1. It was busier then we expected that Friday night
  • 11
    2. A waitress died on her way to work that night. 3. On such short notice, no one was available to come in that night
  • 12
Customer said all those were unacceptable. It took everything I had to not curse him out or punch him

BigDaddydanpri · 14 hr. ago Used to get the 6-8 tops of ladies for lunch all the time. The tables where every single lady asks the salad dressing options... the soda choices...wine by the glass...tea choices.... etc. Got to the point where I would knock on the table, get everyone's attention
  • 14
and state the dressings, house wine options, etc etc with a smile. When stopping by I would knock on table again until they STFU and ask, "ANYONE need anything else? Refills? Dressing? Speak now or hold your peace" Got great tips.

Rosequartzsurfboardt. 6 hr. ago edited 6 hr. ago I manage (sometimes) at a restaurant so I see some other sides of customers. I absolutely HATE when I can see someone fishing for discounts. If you aren't ready to pay the full bill don't come.

I touched a table that was upset their food was cold. They had barely touched it. The woman said her loaded potato was so cold that the butter wasn't melting and her husband's pulled pork was cold. I apologized cause I believed her of course but told her I would be happy to replace it with hot food.
  • 17
For some reason they didn't look happy by the resolution and it was then I knew they wanted a discount. She said. But what about my husband's pulled pork. I explained to
  • 18
her that that was a quick sell item I could have a new hot plate of it pretty instantly and she said "oh."So I went got them new food and no discount.

Agitated_Honeydew 7 hr. ago Was hanging out at a punk dive bar in Austin a few decades back. Place was sketchy AF, couldn't go to the bathroom without walking into a drug deal kind of place.

A couple of frat bros walked in slumming, and one of them asked the bartender to surprise him. So the bartender picks up his bar mat, poured it into a pint glass and says 'surprise'. Yeah they didn't stick around after that.

fluffhouse19425 hr. ago I had a woman super rude from the start telling me I'm terrible at my job, I should I ill myself. So I told her to get out. She approached me at my computer trying to be intimidating calling me a ing itch. Well I actually am intimidating. So I was

like look here you¸ing c you better get out while you still can. On her way out she was screaming "look how she treats customers" and one of my regulars yelled out "yeah we know". Hilarious. Love my regulars.

Prestigious_Chard597 - 2 hr. ago Older, very established local casual upscale place that's been around over 30 years. They have a few locations and I actually worked at one in college. Went back to serving in my 40s. I was bartending and had a man sit at the bar and order the $3 house wine special.
  • 25
This man then begins to rant about how he never comes here anymore, it's not the same. He orders. His food looks great. He won't touch it because his 5 ounce cut of salmon looks too small. Again tells me this is why he doesn't come here anymore.

I remove the entree and get him a soup. A delicious soup that we sell out of everyday. He takes one bite and pushes it away. Then starts his speil again. I take 3 dollars out of my pocket. Pay for his wine and tell him, well you CAN leave. My manager backed me up.

baeb66 · 1 hr. ago This guy asked me my opinion about two bottles of wine on our very dense wine book. I gave him my honest opinion. He responded with: "You only picked that one because it is $12 more expensive". I looked him dead in the eye and said in my driest voice: "It's clearly $12 better".

Gorgonsoxz. 8 min. ago Wasn't me, but I stood there as it happened. I was working in a restaurant in a pretty conservative state right after we were allowed to reopen following the pandemic. The rule at the time was that guests had to wear masks as they entered

the building, but once they were sat, they could remove them. One of our bartenders was working as a maitre d' and had a guest who said something to the effect of "Don't you think it's stupid we have to wear the masks just until we get to our table?" And this absolute legend of a bartender said, "Yep, almost as stupid as arguing about it."
  • 30
SOMEHOW the guest just laughed it off and said good point. If I'd been drinking water at that moment I swear I would have done a legit spittake.

Same bartender, different story: We had a table that was upset they were being taken care of by an obviously gay man. They called over our manager and told her something to the effect of, I can't believe you'd hire someone like that. Our manager was absolutely taken aback and didn't know
  • 32
what to say. The legend knew exactly what to say, though, and went up to the table and told them, "He's one of our best and if you don't want him, we don't want you." Infinite respect for that dude for those two interactions.
