The OP of the story raises a really interesting point. He dedicated countless hours to developing a new app for his company, a project that was supposed to bring in millions of dollars in revenue. So, how was he repaid? He was promptly let go. Shockingly, this isn't uncommon, as several other employees in the comment section shared similar experiences. One worker responded, "I, too, was laid off immediately after finishing a project. Just sitting in my car with a box containing every bit of evidence that I ever existed, wondering why I worked all those late nights and canceled all those vacations."
It's a bit of a downer, but maybe the moral of the story is that you can't become a victim of the system. While work is undoubtedly important, maintaining balance in life is more important. Unfortunately, things are always changing, and companies are constantly restructuring. This doesn't mean that everyone will face the same fate as the OP, but it does stress the importance of not putting all your eggs in one basket. Life needs balance, and as unfortunate as it may be, change is constant. Companies evolve, and so must individuals.
This doesn't deny the importance of hard work, but it does serve as a reminder that life is multifaceted. And who knows? The OP might have a better, higher-paying job just around the corner. Just like this other OP: Less than 3 weeks after being wrongfully fired, employer is forced to rehire employee at 6x his old rate. Life has a weird way of surprising us.
