So I wrote on this thread before about my students drinking from my water bottle. As an update-1 taught them a lesson on germs and why it's important to never share drinks. They still ask me to drink from my bottle but I just tell them no.

Anyways, today I brought my students to another class to work on our kindergarten project.I walked back to my classroom to grab something and I saw one of my students run from my desk. She was in the room by herself since my class and I were in the other room. I walk over to my desk and see my coffee cup opened and spilled all over my desk.

I ask her " did you drink some of my coffee?" she told me "yes, yummy". I just stood there for a second and explained to her why she should not do that. I do not have anywhere to lock my belongings but I'm thinking of just placing my drinks up high so none of my students can touch it.

Waltgrace83 • 15h Is this the world we are living in? I was afraid to walk up to my teacher's desk until I was in like 4th grade. And she drank some of your coffee? You can say all you want about how "they are just kids." No. is wrong with our parents? Reply ... 41.8k

xerxesordeath • 13h I work with AVID middle schoolers as a tutor and they've all learned very quickly that they do not touch a single one of my things. Never in my k-12 education would I have dared to touch my teachers things without asking and WAITING for a response. Ffs these kids will ask their teachers if they can have a thing and just take it mid question before the teacher even has a second to realize what's being asked. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm sure that kid didn't learn any

FOO NapsRule563 12h ● That's when I walk over to their book sack, pick it up and start rummaging through it. I tell them day one, touch anything on my desk, I will do this. Your book sack is equivalent to my desk. They so much as go to grab a pencil, I'm all I know you didn't! Get me your book sack. Takes maybe three times and now they are all "can I please?" Yes, you may. ... 176

RuoLingOnARiver. 10h Yeah. I had a colleague who insisted on "positive discipline" and clearly didn't like to hear me tell children "no". "Oh, it's ok" said with a laugh as a child does something they know they shouldn't be doing is NOT DISCIPLINE!! I tried to find any website, blog, etc. that taught positive discipline as anything but "clear, firm, understood boundaries" and couldn't. It's like some people think "positive discipline" means "bend over backwards to make the children like me, no m

sunsetorangespoon • 14h I teach high school, but my mom is a 2nd grade teacher. I read this to her and she feels your pain, she has began explaining to students that home and school have different rules and that something may be fine with their parents but not their teachers, and at school you have to listen to teachers. TallHoe_InA_Tahoe • 12h Not a teacher but when I was in middle school a girl ran up to the teachers desk and took a bite of her Chinese food! The teacher (elderly and a year out from retiring) came back and caught her red handed. She had her hands around the student's neck yelling, "SPIT IT OUT! SPIT IT OUT!" as she shook her back and forth. That was the last time I saw her. Don't blame her though, children are completely unhinged and the Chinese takeout was obviously the last straw. legomote 13h God, I read that "yes, yummy" quote in the voice of my own student who would absolutely do such a thing, as well. Explaining does nothing with these kids, but I have no idea what would work. How do we overcome a lifetime of just being allowed to do whatever the they want?! Reply 4 285 ...

AffectionateElk234 • 11h I was a para in a first grade class. I was out with norovirus (iykyk). I was still feeling rough, so I brought in Gatorade to nurse throughout my day. I had to eat lunch in the class. So I'm sitting at the back table during lunch and a student came over, took my Gatorade and drank it. He was out a few days later with a "terrible stomach bug". Natural consequences. ... Reply 89

pantslessMODesty3623 • 13h Orchestra | Midwest On a day where I was ill, students ransacked my desk and stole classroom materials out of my room. I talked with each class about this and not a soul cared. And these were the ORCHESTRA students. I emailed the whole staff about the stolen items and nobody was surprised. I refused to let them have classroom materials for the rest of the year. They had to bring their own stuff from home. Reply 129
