Do you think parents should invest in extravagant birthday parties for their kids from their very first birthday?
From one point of view, you have parents who won't do more than some balloons and a cake, with the claim that the one-year-old isn't going to remember that birthday anyway. And so there is not much of a point in going all out for this one party (or any party until they are five, in that matter). From another point of view, you have parents who will put everything they've got from day one (or, you know, day 365). Those who will organize lavish birthday parties, invite all their friends and family, and take hundreds of photos of their child.
Or, equally as lavish, there are parents who insist on celebrating their child's birthday at Disney World. Like the OP of this Reddit story. OP asked Reddit if she was in the wrong for not wanting her MIL to schedule her wedding on her daughter's birthday, a day the family usually spends at Disney World. Even after updating some accusing details on her MIL, Redditos still believed OP was being selfish.
