'[It cost] a measly 69 cents': Karen wants a cup of ranch with her pizza, doesn't want to pay

You might not expect a grown adult to lose their marbles over a 69-cent cup of the ranch, but when it comes to entitled people and paying petty amounts of cash, you can always expect there to be an issue.

  • When I was in middle school, there was this craze sweeping the country: Pizza dipped in ranch dressing—well, not so much dipped as completely drenched in the rich-fatty dressing… a surefire way to make sure you're getting enough calories in a single meal to fuel a grown adult for an entire day.

    Kids went crazy for the stuff and got so out of control that the lunch staff and TAs had to carefully monitor and limit the amount of ranch kids were getting with their meal.

    This, for better or for worse, is the quintessential American lunchroom meal, and even in a world where there was no social media and the first batch of middle schoolers ever to get cell phones were just getting them, every kid in every school seemed to be savvy to the wonders of pizza with ranch.

    Those kids have long since grown up, and a good deal of them now have children of their own, but it would seem that there is still a kid inside, even the most entitled of Karens, still longing for that savory, greasy, wondrous sensation. They might even get a little wild over it, just like they used to…

    a singular delivery order and a couple of carryout orders. So our boss comes in to the store and after seeing how slow it was, tells us to feel free to make food for ourselves. Steve and I are stoked, since neither of us had eaten and all that day. Steve makes himself a medium pizza with cheese, and I make my own pizza. A medium with pepperoni, and bacon.     So right from the moment she walked in I could tell, that this wasn't gonna be a pleasant encounter.     So, The lady asked for an extra ranch dipping cup. Now, one of the rules we have about the dipping cups is that we are not allowed to give extra dipping cups to the customers for free. The only time the dipping cups are free is if they actually came with the order, which in this particular case, they didn't. So, I grab the ranch cup, put it on the counter and I tell her the price, which was literally a measly 69 cents. She looks at me and says "Are you kidding me? You can't just give me the cup

    thing I've learned from all the other Karen related stories that I've heard, is that Karen's absolutely hate being told no. For any reason. So, when I tell her that I can't give her the cup for free, she started yelling and swearing. Saying things like "Are you gonna charge me to you the bathroom too? Or maybe you're gonna make me pay for extra napkins too!" At this point, Steve and I are getting pretty annoyed and that's when my boss((who I found out later on was actually the mco of the company

    As we're explaining what's happening, the Karen suddenly goes completely off topic, talking about how our customer service was terrible. She then mentions that she actually owns her own pizza restaurant, where allegedly, they make over 500 pizzas per day. I'm not sure if she was being truthful or just blowing smoke.     could practically hear a feather fall. I look over at the Karen's son, who is trying his absolute hardest not to laugh. Steve and I were containing our own laughter as well. So then Karen hurls more insults before grabbing her pizzas and leaving the store with her son. Steve and I share a laugh before going back to enjoy our pizzas. I off all the time and just waiting for someone and something i could direct my ire at. then for reasons i won't go into right now....i lost all that anger. and i no longer exhibited my Karenish attitudes. so sometimes a Karen is a Karen not because they feel particularly entitled but because they are mad at the world...
