don't like to be around your kids when you "shouldn't" have to. Just admit it and we can all have a drink and laugh about it. Enough of your, "my kids education blah blah blah." We all know you'd rather let your kid stare at a screen all night long so you can have your glass of wine/beer and watch Bachelor/sports instead of supervising their homework duties. your kid's teacher

*Edit after 3.5k upvotes. I still believe it's the ugly truth for a lot, but not all parents. Yes, I understand the struggles, but there's far too many comments from the public about teacher snow and cold days; mouthing off about teachers being lazy, entitled, and having too many days off when we "celebrate" a weather day off. So, yes this is my counter-rant. This week has been weather tough for many parts of the U.S. and it has irked me, and will continue to irk me when certain parents paint us

freedraw 23 hr. ago I imagine a bigger part is bosses who are making them come to work. Reply Share 904 OhioUBobcats 22 hr. ago Physics | Ohio Correct. Parents aren't the majority of the problem, American work culture is most of the problem.

Glad Break_618 OP. 9 hr. ago THIS. Teachers shouldn't be the villains in this. It's their boss who's making them come to work, or docking pay for not coming to work in dangerous weather conditions. Also, yes, it that for some parents, not going to work means not getting paid, but that isn't my concern, however selfish that sounds. It's just not, so I get irked when parents mouth off about how it's "unfair" teachers get the day off, blah, blah, blah.

Funwithfun14 15 hr. ago My wife is a doctor. She can't cancel an entire day of procedures bc schools won't open. This is the reality that many don't want to admit.

unleadedbrunette 11 hr. ago Schools are for educating children, not babysitting. If school is closed and your wife must go to work, maybe you keep your children? Or, you get someone else? As a teacher, I have had to have other family members help me take care of my children so that I can take care of other people's children.

90s-Stock-Anxiety. 1 day ago The only people I see who get mad because they have to be around their kids are usually wealthy families. Most families I know, like 99%, get frustrated because we are penalized for missing work and/or don't have paid leave so our paycheck gets cut and it makes it hard to pay bills.

Hot-Photograph-1531 19 hr. ago I've found that it's always the full time stay at home moms whose kids never miss school (send them in sick, won't come to pick up their sick kids). Like what the heck, I know kids are exhausting but..... you're not missing work,

justme3227 14 hr. ago I had a parent email me on a snow day and literally say "he's running circles and I can't get him to listen". I gave her ideas but she was still not happy. This is your kid lady!

Introverted Brawler 1 day ago I see too many people who honestly don't like their own kids and have no idea what to do with them. In their mind, a snow day is us saying "I can't handle this, you take them" just like they do to us.

Holmes221bBSt. 23 hr. ago I think this is a generalization. A lot parents can't get work off. If they do, it puts their job at risk. Be upset at the parents' bosses.

90s-Stock-Anxiety. 1 day ago Most parents I knew were complaining about the e-learning they have to do with their kids, or the missing of work because of lack of PTO or punishment at work. Not being around their kids. My KINDERGARTENER had mandatory "e-learning" worksheets we had to print out for him to do, and if we don't turn them in then he's considered an unexcused absence for the "snow day". It took 3.5hr of me trying to do the worksheets with him. And he was mad the whole time because he w

Hot Income9784 1 day ago I see the opposite in my sons' school. People complaining that schools are not calling snow days on social media. Then when confronted with "You are the parent. You can decide to keep your child home for the day," the response is that the child already has so many absences that they can't afford one due the weather. Can't win either way.

earthgarden 20 hr. ago This is part of it but also for many parents if the schools are closed this means they have to call off work. Back in the day this didn't matter as you could leave kids home alone with no fallout, but now if they're younger than middle school someone might call CPS on you.

Left Direction _3145 1 day ago The parents who complain about snow days in my district are always the wealthy ones. The teachers, and sometimes the nannies are the ones who have to do the hard stuff and they deal with their kids on vacation so that they only have to be the good guys. Sickening.

succubeees 21 hr. ago Also.. let the kids live. When I was in school, waiting up in the morning for the call or watch the TV was my favorite thing. Then getting to go back to sleep or playing? Like, we take every ounce of childhood from these kids and give them no time to be one. Reply Share 34 Glad Break_618 OP 9 hr. ago I loved those days as a kid!

OhioUBobcats 1 day ago Physics | Ohio 100%. We're in school today while most of the city is off not because it's what's best for kids, but because parents need babysitting. The wind chills are -20 out or worse. We do not have bussing. What the are we doing here
