There is no story that breaks our hearts more than hearing about an owner abandon their pet. We can't relate to it, we can't understand it, it seems… cruel to us, especially after they have been together for a long time. Our cat is part of our family, we can't imagine letting go of it under any circumstances. But what we can understand is that this new cat owner is going through. After being abandoned by its owner, this sweet cat chose a human and followed them home. And now that this cat is here, the new owner and their roommate are wondering what can they do to make this cat happy.
It's one thing to adopt a kitty cat, but it's a whole other thing to adopt a cat that has been abandoned by its previous owner. We can only imagine the confusion and distrust that this cat feels, and the desire that the new owner feels to make this cat as happy as possible. Thankfully, people on the internet have got some ideas.

"He was never an outdoor cat. His old family still lives down the street, but he has his own "person" who moved out and couldn't take the cat with him. They told me he's refused to stay inside ever since. He's had all his shots and was neutered as a kitten to answer some common questions."
"He had a favorite person in the household who moved out, and ever since then he's been escaping their place (they have multiple dogs and kids, so I can imagine hard to keep track!) so he was always an indoor cat with his human. They said he wouldn't stop running out since his human moved, and then he just followed my roommate home on a wet and cold day. Now when he isn't jumping at every car that drives by or looking around the front steps, he's on his back demanding to be pet lol"
