Would you rather work 4 10s or 5 8s? I was offered two jobs that pay the same and do the same type of work. One is Monday-Thursday 10 hour shifts (idk the actual hours of the day though,) and the other is Monday-Friday 8-5. Which should I take? I like the idea of having 3 days off every week instead of 2, but I currently work 12s and hate the longer shifts but feel like I might not mind 10s. I just wanna know what y'all would do lol

water_malone873 • 2d ago If you are used to 12s already, 4 10s will feel like working part time. Go with the 4 10s for sure. That extra day is a life changing set up. 4290 Reply ↑ Share Je_in_BC 2d ago ● ... I work 4 11s after years of 4 12s. Every day I feel like I'm skipping off early lol. Also, 4 on 4 off is awesome! I imagine 4/3 would also be good. I have so much more time to be with my family. Incidentally, I work in emergency services, so no real breaks. I still love it. 4 36 Reply ↑ Shar

Solo-me 2d ago Agree with this but also depends on OP age and health conditions. Maybe 4 straight long shifts are quite brutal for them. Doing 2 on 1 off 2 on and weekend off might be more suitable. All depends on them. 4 2 + Reply 1 Share

smartfoodpopcorn69. 2d ago I would rather 4 10s. I've been doing 10s lately, and as long as your job gives you the option for a full hour break, either split it up as 2 30s or a full hour break at once, it's worth the 3 days off for sure and definitely feels more manageable as far as work/life balance goes. 45 Reply ↑ Share Internal-Yoghurt-895 2d ago I worked 4/10's and I loved it. Much better than 5/8's 4 35 ↓ Reply ↑ Share ●

QB heaz247 4- 10s is the way! I work this schedule sun thru weds and the work-life balance we're always going on about is attainable. You get used to the "extra" 2 hours a day quickly! Every 2 1/2 hrs I get a break or lunch so it's not bad. ● 2d ago And who doesn't want 3 whole days off every week? 14 ↓ Reply ↑ Share ...

    nerdburg 2d ago ● I'm scheduled for 4 x 10s. I love 3 day weekends. If you schedule yourself for Fridays off, every time there is a national holiday with a Monday off, you get a 4 day weekend. ↑ 12 ↓ Reply ↑ Share Yellow Snow_Cones · 2d ago ● 4 10's everytime. 4 10 + Reply Share

I JUMPED on a 4X10, with an arrival time of 5am (!) at the earliest. 20 Share You can't beat that 3-day weekend EVERY WEEK, and I was out the door at or before the 4pm traffic jam. Reply Share

Sarge1387 2d ago ● 4 10's...that should be the gold standard anyways. You won't notice much of a difference in the working week, but you'll REALLY notice that third day off 48 ↓ 83 Reply Living Privately · 2d ago ● Share 4 10s sound ideal. Most people feel like two day weekends go by too fast, so having that extra day is nice. If you're really busy during those 10 hour shifts, it will go by fast. As u/water_malone873 mentioned, it won't feel that long since you're already used to 12s. 44 ↓ Reply

TipGroundbreaking834 2d ago ● And to add I would never go back to 5 8s it's soul sucking 423 Reply 1 Share CADDmanDH 2d ago Edited 2d ago I would take the 4x 10 hour days, hands down. I work long days anyways so this would be no sweat off my brow, and if you are busy with work, days fly by fast. Plus, having 3 day weekends every week is amazing, especially to have a weekday to schedule things for that can't be done on the weekend, or get an extra day to sleep in! Yeah, sign me up. 42 ↓ Reply ↑ S

Firm-Ad9300 - 2d ago 4 10s. I wish I had that schedule ↑ 2 ↓ Reply Swarf 87 2d ago 4 10s. Share : Literally zero contest. Trust me it's not even close You will barely notice the 2 extra hours on your 4 days. After a week it becomes completely normal for you, but I guarantee you will feel the 3 day weekends every single week, and a 4 day weekend every single stat. 2凸 Reply 1 Share

Different Mention1422 2d ago 4 10s. Cuts commuting costs and time by 20% right off the bat. The extra 2 hours aren't that bad, especially with a 3 day weekend. And it's perfect for office work to me. 42 ↓ Reply ● ● Jaepidie 2d ago 4 10s is life-changing. Go for it. 42 ↓ Reply Share Share ...

Fun-Yellow-6576 I've worked both and my only issue was holiday and PTO hours were 8 hour blocks. So if the office was closed for Memorial Day I would either have to work 2 extra hours that week or take 2 hours unpaid leave. ● 2d ago The three days off was great though! 42 ↓ Reply ↑ Share ShakeltUpNowSugaree 2d ago 4-10s. I love having every Friday off. And I save a decent amount on gas since I live 30 miles from work. 42 ↓ Reply ↑ Share
