Posted by u/wsotw 9 hours ago You sure you know how to tie down that load? Okay, have it your way. SOC A few years ago I pulled into a lumber yard parking lot on my way to pick up a super small item. As I was walking through the parking lot

on the way to the store I saw this guy tying about three thousand dollars worth of composite decking into the top of his truck rack. Now, if you know anything about composite decking you know that it is expensive, heavy and SUPER slick (especially when multiple boards are together). This guy was using a rope to tie this down. Now, don't get me

wrong....ropes are great and there are some awesome knots out there...and this guy could have used all of them...but rope simply wasn't going to cut it, no matter what fancy knots her knew. On my way in a politely told the guy "Hey, just so you know those are REALLY slippery when stacked. A rope isn't going to cut it. You

REALLY need to get a couple of ratchet straps for that." "Don't worry, I got it," he replied in the most smug way he could muster. Okay, his issue...so I went to buy my thing. Well, since it was only one thing I was back in my truck in three minutes and it turns out I was behind this guy leaving the driveway. As the front of his

truck dipped into the gutter three thousand dollars worth of expensive composite decking slides right off of the top of his truck, completely obliterates his hood and fans out across the boulevard. As I drove past I honked, smiled and waved. After all...he clearly wanted me to mind my own business....so I did.

Exiledelement 8 hr. ago I don't think there was any danger of that guy reaching the interstate. I'm surprised he made it out of the lot ✩ Vote Reply Share HalcyonDreams36 · 7 hr. ago He didn't. Only the flooring left the driveway.

Pleasant-Ad-8806 - 7 hr. ago Similar experience. Dude had a dozen or so composite boards resting on his dashboard, through the rear slider, and across the tailgate. He said it would hold as he wedged them tightly to the windshield. I was on my way into the store and didn't get to see him leave. Would have loved to see that windshield pop.

Motya1978 5 hr. ago Years ago I bought lumber for a back yard climbing tower. $200 off! (That was a lot more money then than it is now) I loaded up the station wagon, gave the lumber one final push to fit...and cracked the windshield. And you know my deductible was....$200.

SweetHamScamHam. 5 hr. ago It cost me about $140 to have my composite decking (and all the other lumber for my deck) delivered. This story makes me feel like I got a bargain.

jim br 3 hr. ago Many years ago, my wife and I were building a small deck, surfaced with Trex. I drove a F150 outfitted with four crossbars, two over the cab and two on the bed cap. This setup was used many times to haul lumber and 130lbs of kayaks. I thought putting about 40, 16' Trex boards on it was no issue. I was so wrong.

I strapped the decking down in four bundles, three boards across and three or four high. Yes, I was aware it was slick. Each bundle was strapped together, then strapped down to each cross bar. Solidly anchored. My wife was skeptical. It did make it home without issue. But...during the

squirreliest drive home (1.5 miles), she did the math and commented, "you put close to the truck's weight limit on the roof". She also made some correct comments about where my head was located, such that I always do weight calculations before putting in/on the truck.

sparr. 4 hr. ago I had this happen on a cart in the store parking lot. I had to get really aggressive to stop "helpful" passers by from dragging them around further.

derwent-01 8 hr. ago Ropes used correctly will hold just as well as ratchet straps. Trick is knowing how to do it right. Remember, for a very long time we didn't have ratchet straps. ✩ Vote Reply Share mycarwasred 8 hr. ago ..or super-slick composite decking, either.
