Gift-giving is a tough game. You don't want to go too big, but you definitely don't want to go too small. Especially if you're someone's employer. In this case, it probably would have been better to give nothing than to give this sorry array of junk. Hey, I love a granola bar as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't call it a gift. I'd call it a friend doing you a small favor if you said you're hungry and they happen to have one in their purse. Calling that a gift would be disrespecting gifts.
But that's exactly what happened to an employee of a big company, as a reward for bringing in a large sum of sales for them. Yeah, bringing in sales is their job, but it's nice to be recognized for your work. Not given the remnants of someone cleaning out the top drawer of their desk.
