Gen X, what's the technology that you miss the most?
While I'm not Gen X myself, I miss when phones had physical keyboards. They used to have a physical qwerty keyboard built in, and it made little clicking noises as you typed. I also loved the kind that slid open longways to reveal the keyboard, or slid open the short way to reveal a number keypad. These things seem so obscure now, so I can't imagine how it must feel to watch computers or TVs or phones evolve.
Growing up in the 1980s seems to have been a positive experience for a lot of Gen Xers. They were largely left to fend for themselves, since their parents trusted them to take care of themselves and come home before the streetlights came on. It was a childhood spent riding bikes and playing baseball with friends. There were no cell phones yet: you'd have to call your friends on the house phone, with the curly cord attached and all.
