Her parents are super patriotic and wanted to name all of their children after states. Unfortunately for the Original Poster (OP), Pennsylvania is a tough one to get stuck with. She was teased endlessly as a kid, mainly because her parents refused to let her go by her nickname, Penny. When she left for college, she stuck to just Penny. Many of her friends there assumed Penny was short for Penelope. Even her boyfriend's mom, but she was too embarrassed to correct her and say her name is Pennsylvania. So, she changed it. But the catch is she didn't tell her family. She knew that her parents would not take the news well and scold her for disrespecting their name choice. So, she kept it a secret. But there's one little problem. Now she's getting married in two months, and when she's up at the altar, it's going to be a big bomb when the part of the vows comes when she has to say, "I, Penelope, take…". So, she came clean. Let's just say it didn't go well.
