Listen, we all have done it. Anybody with a smartphone has done it. The boomers do it on Facebook, the millennials do it on Instagram, and Gen Z does it on TikTok—doom scrolling. We just need a little relief from the thoughts. The brain sometimes doesn't want to turn off, so instead of having it think about everything that stresses you out, you distract it with content online. Memes, cute animal videos, whatever your friends are up to, a DIY video or whatever! Your brain takes in that new information and gives you a break from the constant berating of stress. Oh wait… There's a news headline on your feed. Now you're reading that article. Now you're getting worried about society. Now you're doom scrolling information about whatever extremely stressful fear-mongering thing that media outlet had you click on. Now your feed is a bunch of articles with similar stressful topics. Uh-oh. Your doom scrolling has taken a turn for the worst… Start over and scroll through these memes about doom scrolling before you give yourself a reset. Maybe go drink some water…
