Dogs are pawmazing, let us start with that, but dog sitting for other people… that can be a challenge. It all depends on the dog and the dog sitter and the situation. But it's not always easy. We have written about dog sitters having had to face a whole of dilemmas over our time here. We have read everything from dog sitters breaking all the rules they've been given about the dogs they're watching over, to dog sitters losing sleep because the dogs are not allowed on the couch but every time they sleep on the couch, the dogs pile on them, all the way to dog sitters recreating movie scenes with the dogs they are watching because… why not?
Regardless of the difficulties, generally, we do it anyway. Because we love dogs, and we love helping with dogs, so dog sitting is something we like. When we're not forced to do it, and when it's not too much of an ask. In this story, with 5 high maintenance dogs and 7 nights unable to leave the house… it's a bit much indeed.

Look… if it was just a matter of helping them out for a few days, then maybe we would not take her side, but asking her to dog-sit five extremely high-maintenance dogs for seven days during which she can't really leave their house? Yeah, that's a bit much.
And to think that on top of asking for so much, refusing to get an actual dog sitter, they would blame her for not going on vacation, think that she is the one who is unreasonable, say they were "blindsided" by her refusing to do it, and be so selfish and entitled about the whole thing… yeah, no, we're on her side.
