People tend to get a little bit nutty over their dietary preferences. Still, there's a difference between a preference and a requirement… "I don't eat legumes because they make me a little gassy" is an entirely different ballpark than "Even a speck of gluten will cause my immune system to attack my organs or "All the liquid in my blood will leave my blood vessels if this prawn touches me." Still, some dietary preferences are deeply rooted in staunch and steadfast religious beliefs or ethical quandary, so there's an argument there that these are perhaps more serious than just simple preference alone.
As commenters have suggested in their replies to this thread, their description of their anemia isn't really how anemia works. It's far more likely that they're just being a little dramatic about the situation and are one of those delicate "manly" types who think their testicles will shrivel and fall off if they touch tofu. That, or they're so dependent on the rush that their high blood pressure gives them that they think even going one day with red meat will cause their body to fall to pieces.
