It is no joke when people say that when you marry a person, you are also marrying their family. Like it or not, marriage means that you are going to have a long and committed relationship with your partner's parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, and sometimes their children. So if you don't have a good relationship with your partner's family, I would seriously suggest proceeding with caution. It can cause a lot of stress having to navigate a relationship with people who don't support you.
The person who wrote this Reddit piece would probably agree with this advice, as she just broke up with her fiancé because of how his family treated her. After they were invited to the wedding of her fiancé's son, OP (original poster) was unsure of whether or not she was welcomed there. Then, even after her fiancé assured her she was, it did not seem that way during the wedding itself. It got to a point where OP was asked to leave, causing a serious strain on her relationship with her fiancé.
