Welcome, latchkey ladies. It's no wonder that kids these days are obsessed with the 80s. It truly was the perfect time to grow up. You could take your bike and ride away with your friends for hours with no way to be reached by phone call or text message, knowing only that you had to be home before dark. You could try out a crazy hairdo or makeup look without someone having photo evidence of your cringey experimentations to hold over your head. Back then, there were all sorts of 'third spaces' to hang out in - malls, food courts, libraries, record stores, arcades, bowling alleys - without spending an arm and a leg. You could turn on MTV and actually discover new music instead of being forced to watch reality TV. Instead of Amazon Wish lists, you cut out your desires from all the store catalogues mailed to your house - like a manual Pinterest manifestation board.
