It's finally back to school time, and odds are your kids have already contracted at least one illness and you've had to make a last-minute run for school supplies they didn't tell you you had to purchase. Back to school is a special time of year. The air is beginning to chill, a sense of possibility unfurls, and you're brushing up on 6th-grade algebra because your kid needs help and you forgot. School ain't easy. But at least it's a return to normal schedules, and having a place to reliably send your kid for eight hours every day.
But it's also the return of packing lunches, doing bus duty, and facing the sneers of other moms with their homemade bake sale items and stuck-up children. All to say, it's a mixed bag.
