I've been at my current job for 8 years. We're extremely short staffed because one employee left and another has reduced his hours. We're just a small dental clinic and I'm now the only full time, fully qualified auxiliary working and I've been working extremely hard to help the practice cope with our staffing

issues as my boss refuses to change the appointment books to accommodate for our current situation. And I was fine with this because you know what, it's not going to last and we'll get someone in eventually and the load will ease up on me.

But after today, I'm done with this place. He tells me he's found someone who will be starting with us soon. The guy he's found has absolutely ZERO experience so I will need to train him up. That's fine, I don't mind doing that. But what tipped me over the edge was when he told me that the new guy

is going to be starting at the same wage I currently am on. Like are you kidding me? I've been here for 8 years, and only just a couple of months ago had a pay raise to what I am currently and now you're telling me you want to hire someone who has NO EXPERIENCE who I will need to

train and he's going to be on the same salary? And it's not only just me because now this new guy is going to be paid more than the other auxiliary that has been here for 4 years. It's clear to me now that he has absolutely no respect for me and

how much work I've put into helping him keep this place afloat. I'm done. I'm looking for other jobs and as soon as I find something, I'm handing in my notice. I could've been working elsewhere doing a hygiene job

that would pay a whole lot more than what I'm currently getting but I decided to stick here out of loyalty. But it's clear now that that so I'm out. means

StolenWishes • 13h ago 8 years is about 6 too long. And employer loyalty died decades ago. Good luck with your job search!

Mr_Poodoo • 12h ago You have to job hop every couple of years to get those increased new-hire rates. Don't worry about giving notice either. Once you secure a new job, just quit.

    • fenriq 13h ago The idea of someone learning on the job in a dental office is absolutely terrifying to me. You and the other auxiliary guy should walk and let his business fail.

JesusFuckImOld • 12h ago Ask for a raise. If he doesn't give it, hand in your immediate resignation. When they offer the raise after, refuse.

MadTownMich⚫ 13h ago Dentists make an insane amount of money. Experienced dentists are taking in anywhere from $400,000 to more than $1m. For your boss to not relent in the schedule so he can continue to rake it in without giving you a significant raise is ridiculous. Did you say anything to him and demand higher pay?

Angry_German . 12h ago SocDem For the future, slightly re- adjust the focus of your hate. The fact that the new hire gets the same amount as you is not the issue. The fact that your experience and willingness to go above and beyond is not recognized with higher pay. THAT is the issue.

mcflame13 12h ago . Tell your boss that since he hired someone that has ZERO experience at the same salary you are at. That you want a $5k yearly salary increase. That he needs to pay you more if he wants you to continue working as you have been while training someone who has absolutely zero idea what to do. And once the training is done. He is not allowed to lower your salary.

. Strateagery3912 · 12h ago Resign and offer to train the new guys as a contractor at 3X your salary.
